To me, this is not just another cookie recipe. This is my Grandma’s cookie recipe. As a child, every time we went to visit Grandma, there was a batch of Cowboy Cookies on the counter and three more in the freezer.
These cookies get their name because they are hearty and packed with goodness like oats, chocolate chips, and raisins – fit to feed a cowboy.
Either way, they are a delicious family favourite that I’m sure will soon be yours as well.

Serves: 3 dozen cookies
- 1 cup butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 3 cups rolled oats
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup raisins
- Set oven temperature to 350°F.
- Cream together room temperature butter, white and brown sugar until consistency is smooth and creamy.
- Add eggs, one at a time, until just mixed, followed by the vanilla.
- Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder and cinnamon and mix until evenly incorporated.
- Slowly add in the rolled oats followed by the chocolate chips and raisins until just mixed.
- Drop dough by the spoonfuls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment.
- Cook for about 10 minutes until your cookies are nice and golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack. Repeat the baking process until the dough is gone.
Step 2: If you are like me and don’t have enough time to bring butter to room temperature, use the paddle attachment on your stand up mixer. Beat the butter for a minute or two and it will become soft.
